Lisa Neeb
General Accountant & Insurance Administrator
Give us a brief overview of your role.
I am part of the Accounting Team, with a focus on Insurance. This involves making sure our overall business, operating projects and under-construction projects are protected. I also review all vendor insurance, so we don’t carry the risk. I get to touch on all areas of the business by working with legal, development, asset management, and engineering, so it keeps things interesting for me. My main accounting responsibility is employee expenses, so I really get to work with everyone.
What is the most memorable moment you have had working for GSI?
It is more of a process than a moment, but all the work leading up to getting a bond for the one of our projects basically consumed 3 months of my life last year. There were many hurdles to overcome along the way; it was quite a roller coaster, which made success that much more rewarding.
What led you to a career in accounting and what have you found rewarding from working in the renewables sector?
I didn’t start out in Accounting; I have a background in the sciences and research, but I have always been a numbers person. I enjoy the challenge of digging in and figuring out what needs to happen to achieve results, through the collection of information from various sources, within and outside the company. My husband and I were partners in a solar installation company before I started with Saturn, (now GSI) so I have been exposed to the construction side of the business for many years. I have a heartfelt concern for our changing climate, and as a proud Canadian, I am always excited to share that GSI is involved in one of the largest solar projects in Canada, partnering with an Indigenous group to support its economy and create meaningful opportunities.
Tell us one interesting fact about yourself that your colleagues might not know.
I recently started line dancing classes, not out of any great passion; I know the teacher, and it is just a fun way to get in 8,000 steps in a night! My husband and I also love DIY projects and have spent 20-plus years restoring and renovating our 1860s stone farmhouse. We designed our own addition on graph paper and did most of the interior finish work ourselves.
How do you spend your time outside of work?
My husband, 2 boys and I have a 100-acre farm with some cattle, so it’s a bit like Yellowstone, only in Perth County with no mountains or staff – we do the chores. We also have a dog and 3 barn cats. I enjoy bopping around the yard with my family and pets, although I prefer working in my flower beds to shoveling snow. This year, my boys fixed up some classic snowmobiles, so we have been out snowmobiling and embracing the Canadian winter. Yoga is also one of my joys.

What is one thing you’d like to cross off your bucket list?
A Mediterranean cruise.
