Prospecting & Land Acquisition

Prospecting & Land Acquisition

Greenwood Sustainable Infrastructure (GSI) sources projects through both greenfield development and by acquisition. We acquire projects at any stage in the development process; and have established long-standing relationships with developers which provide us with a strong pipeline of viable sites and facilities.

During the initial project briefing, we undertake a viability analysis, which considers the following four factors:

1) Location – preferably with advantageous sunlight hours and environment;
2) Technical feasibility – establishing whether a project is logistically possible to build and maintain;
3) Contracting and permitting – identifying stakeholders and determining long-term sustainability; and
4) Economic viability – for the entire duration of the project life cycle.

Not all projects meet all of these viability factors, and in most cases we find solutions for these projects. The ability of our experienced team to resolve issues, which would have previously rendered a project unviable, is what sets us apart.

Greenfield Development

Greenfield Development

The steps required in the Development phase depend on the stage of development of the site. For greenfield projects, we coordinate viability and site studies, obtain site control and permitting, negotiate with energy buyers, secure interconnection, procure equipment, and finalize the project design. If acquiring from other developers, we typically negotiate a “Membership Interest Purchase Agreement”, which allocates responsibilities according to the project’s stage of development. It is at this point that we aggregate projects into portfolios and prepare for construction to start. Our project financing team then engage our network of trusted financing parties.

Construction Management

Construction Management

The Technical team oversees the entire construction process of our projects. As a result of successfully managing the construction process of over 40 projects, we have identified and established relationships with reliable Engineering, Procurement and Construction (“EPC”) providers that are capable of building numerous projects at multiple locations concurrently. Engaging with our trusted EPC providers creates an efficient documentation process with counterparties and timely product delivery.

Operations

Operations

Typically, during this phase our Project Finance team will negotiate and close third-party financing. The Project Finance team also manages funds to ensure timely payment of contractors during construction. It is during this phase where we hire and manage a qualified Operations and Maintenance team, who are responsible for keeping sites running optimally. We also facilitate an appropriate insurance plan, monitoring equipment, and decommissioning bond to ensure the project operates effectively.

Asset Management

Asset Management

Asset Management is comprised of Technical, Financial and Legal teams working together to maximize the value of our operating projects, including reporting on project performance. The Technical team is responsible for coordinating operations and maintenance providers to ensure optimal project performance. The Financial team is responsible for client relations, financing party relations, cash management and reporting. The Legal team is responsible for contract compliance with all counterparties. Our goal is to drive revenues by producing as many kilowatt hours as possible whilst minimizing repair costs with regular monitoring and maintenance.
